The kitchen is one of the most important rooms of the home. It is the manifestation of family harmony, health, and wealth. Under the Eight Mansions and Flying Star formulas, certain sectors of the home are unlucky. The kitchen located in one of these sectors is a good thing and presses down bad luck caused by bad flying star numbers or personalized directions of bad fortune.

Important element features to consider:

Kitchens are a bastion of the conflicting elements, water and fire.

Water includes refrigerators, sinks and dishwashers.
Fire includes stoves, ovens, microwaves, toasters and rice cookers.

General Guidelines on the kitchen and stove

  1. The kitchen, especially the stove, should be clean of grease and free of clutter.
  2. It should be open, airy, with adequate lighting.
  3. It is not the place Feng Shui figurines or mirrors. The fire element is too strong and mirrors magnify fire.
  4. Green is a good color for kitchens, as wood balances the fire and water in a kitchen, especially if it is in the East or Southeast.

Kitchen Location

  1. Placed in protected part of the house, closer to the rear of the home is best.
  1. Located in the center of the home, it brings too much fire and can have long term nagging health issues. Add lots of earth element if your kitchen is located here, i.e. ceramic, pottery, earthen tile and yellow/ochre color or metal like stainless steel appliances.
  1. The kitchen, especially the stove should not be in the Northwest sector, the patriarch’s corner. A kitchen in the NW is called ‘Fire at Heaven’s Gate’ and brings negative influence to the main breadwinner or patriarch. The NW generates long-term wealth, heaven luck, benefactors and mentors and is associated with the metal element. Fire ‘burns’ the metal of the NW and will affect the career, money and benefactors for the head of the household. Try to move the stove and other heating elements out of the NW corner of the room if possible.

The Stove and Rice Cooker

  1. An appropriately oriented stove can bring enormous good fortune to a family. When the mouth of the stove faces one of the best directions of the patriarch or main breadwinner, the food cooked in it becomes auspicious for the family.
  2. Avoid placing the stove directly opposite the sink or refrigerator. The water and fire elements are conflicting energies. Hang a wind chime between if you have this configuration or place a small table or object between.
  3. It is best if the stove and sink are at least two feet apart.
  4. Do not place the stove under an exposed overhead beam or skylight. This can bring on a host of bad luck. Cover the skylight.
  5. Stoves should not be placed directly under a toilet on the floor above, directly face a toilet door, or be against a wall directly opposite a toilet.
  6. You should be able to see the door while cooking.
  7. A window above the stove is not auspicious.
  8. The stove should not face the front door, a bedroom door or be placed on a wall opposite a bed. The fire element is too strong and will consumes the chi before its benefits the occupants or bring on health problems and arguments.
