People spend an average of one-third of their lifetime in bed, making it one of the most important rooms. This is where your body regenerates and rejuvenates. It is where strong loving relationships are nurtured and important family decisions are made. It is your sanctuary. It should be mostly yin - calm and peaceful.
Dos in the Bedroom
- Have a solid wall behind the headboard for protection. Solid headboards are best. A large bed is better than two small ones for a couple. Avoid a spit in the bed, which creates divisions. Cover it with a fitted sheet or a piece of wood. Avoid sharp angles, points.
- If most energy is on the left side while lying down, you benefit from the yang energy of the Green Dragon. This is the side closest to the door or activity and is associated with success for the person sleeping there.
- Your sleeping position is crucial. Occupants should be aligned with their head pointed in one of their good directions. Good directions are based on your Kua number or your 4 Pillars natal energy need.
- The decorating and design of the bedroom should be soft colors and lighting with curved furnishings in proportion to the size of the room. Use soft linen and colors, unless wanting to attract romance. In which case, have some reds and pinks.
- Have pairs of things, nightstands, lamps, pillows, and love symbols to connote coupling, especially in the Southwest (love & marriage) corner of the room.
- Having determined your Kua number or your 4 Pillars of Destiny energy requirement, you can add personal colors, elements to support success.
Avoid the Following in Bedrooms:
Bed Placement and Sleeping Positions
- Placing the bed, where lying on it, the feet are pointed at a bathroom, window or door. Your chi will flow out, or be drained by the toilet. Move the bed or close the door when sleeping.
- Having your bed under or above a toilet or garage, or any other dark dirty room on a floor below or above. Success will be elusive and plans go awry.
- Sleeping under a window or skylight. If you must then place a tall solid headboard behind your bed. Use a retractable shade for the skylight at night.
- Sleeping under a beam, sloping wall or over hanging shelves. This creates descending oppressive energy that affects health and relationships.
- Placing the bed on the same wall as the entrance door to a hallway or noisy street. The vibrations cause instability and you cannot see who enters.
- Placing your bed between two windows, two doors, or a mirror and a window. Chi cuts across the bed. This arrangement could bring restless sleep. Use blinds or draperies to cover the windows. Move the mirror.
- Protruding or pointed corners from furniture or architectural features. These emanate poison arrows. Rearrange furniture, soften corners or cover them.
- Having computers, desks, work, and TVs in the room. They emit unhealthy EMFs and are distractions to building a relationship. Watching violent or sad stories and news are not conducive to good sleep and relationship building. If you insist on having a TV in your bedroom, cover it while sleeping. Reading for pleasure is ok.
- Mirrors reflecting the bed. As stress leaves the body, the mirror reflects it back in. Mirrors are too yang and not conducive to a good nights sleep.
- Avoid water fountains and live plants (small ones are ok if you need wood element). Generally these are too yang and the bedroom is best yin.
- Avoid clutter, dirty clothes, shoes, and piles of magazines, newspapers, storing non bed-linen items under the bed.
- A bedroom placed at the end of a long hallway. The chi is too quick and unsettling. Move the bed.
- Irregular shaped bedrooms. A full square or rectangle brings stability. Missing corners reflect missing parts of your life and affects the body where the corners are absent. Try to square off the room.
- Placing the bed opposite a wall of a toilet, shower or tub drain. This drains energy from those sleeping, may cause illness, loss of money, health, opportunities, and danger to relationships .
- Bathroom doors that open to the line of the bed. Health, luck is affected and energy drains from the bedroom down the toilet, sink, tub, and shower, along with wealth, health. Worst if your feet point into the door when sleeping.
- Sloping ceilings, beams and ceiling fans over the bed. These create descending, oppressive energy. Ceiling fans cause cutting chi, affecting health.
- Sleeping under or on top of a stove on floors above/below, or having a stove on the other side of one of the walls of the bedroom, especially the bed increases arguing, tension and illness. Too much fire element.
- Too many doors don't allow chi to gather in a resting place. A second door to the outdoors encourages one person to always be traveling. It is worst if the doors are opposite each other and cross the bed. Chi cuts across the sleeping people. Move the bed.
